Open-source WiFi add-on for controlling the Itho CVE

Control your Itho Daalderop Eco Fan RFT with one simple add-on module:
  • No hardware modifications needed to the Itho box, no warranty voided
  • Set the fan speed from 0 – 255, via a simple web interface, MQTT API or WebAPI
  • Easily integrate this WiFi controller into existing home automation systems
  • Automatic detection in Home Assistant via MQTT
  • Installation can be done in a few minutes
  • Concise installation guide supplied via QR code on the invoice, or download via this link
  • Installation can be done in a few minutes
  • Plug the add-on into the Itho, configure WiFi and any integrations, and the module is ready to use
Why does this module exist?
Itho sells an add-on module that converts a PWM signal to control the speed of the box. It is possible to connect an ESP module to this PWM input and control the Itho, but that requires technical knowledge, among other things. Out of a strong preference to have an integrated and as simple as possible solution available, this module was developed.

What is included in the delivery?
The add-on is always fully assembled, loaded with the required firmware and tested. No special technical knowledge is needed to install the module. A simple flat-head screwdriver is sufficient.

RF module (CC1101):
The add-on comes with an RF module. This makes it possible to receive RF signals from the Itho devices (e.g. remotes). This way you can see, among other things, the status of the remote input on the add-on and in the home automation system, the measured values in the case of a CO2 and/or humidity sensor, and the battery status if present.

With the RF module it is also possible to connect the remote controls directly to the add-on. This makes the status visible in your home automation system and allows you to set the speeds and timer settings for each button press. Control from the home automation system based on exact CO2 and humidity values also becomes possible this way.

Option: Hum/Temp Sensor for Itho CVEs
Not needed for newer Itho models (cream white lid, CVE-S in the model name), these have a temperature and humidity sensor built in as standard. The add-on reads it out automatically.
For Itho models without a built-in temperature/humidity sensor, retrofitting it with some tweaking is also possible.
More information about mounting this sensor can be found in the manual under the temperature/humidity sensor chapter: Manual

If the temperature/humidity sensor is ordered together with the CVE add-on, we make sure the required cable is included as well.

Please note: Itho Optima Inside, built-in CO2 sensor together with the add-on:
Some CVEs have a CO2 sensor built in (model CVE Optima Inside). The priority of the internal CO2 sensor is set by Itho and overrides some other inputs, which makes the control options slightly more limited than for models without a built-in CO2 sensor.

More information about the support and limitations together with this built-in CO2 sensor can be found via this link:
Itho CO2 sensors

This limitation does not apply to CVEs with an external (RFT-CO2) CO2 sensor (Optima instead of Optima inside).

Models confirmed to work:
  • CVE ECO 2 (this unit is also sold in Great Britain under the brand “Heatrae Sadia”) *
  • CVE ECO RFT SE/SP
  • CVE-S eco ventilator RFT
  • CVE-S ECO
  • CVE-S PAK
  • CVE-S CO2 (or OPTIMA inside) (the required extra-long headers are soldered free of charge, please mention this when ordering)
  • HRU 150
  • HRU 200 ECO (also sold as ‘Elektrodesign EHR 140 Akor BP’ and ‘Heatrae Sadia Advance Plus’)
  • Duco 325/425RF

* Please note, there are several CVE ECO 2 models in circulation. The most important thing is the 2×4 pin interface that must be present on the Itho main PCB (circled in red in the image below). The add-on only works if this interface is present.

Non-working models

- HRU 300 V / HRU 375 V / HRU 400 can only be controlled via RF with an HRU/WPU/DemandFlow/QualityFlow WiFi module including CC1101 RF module. Reading the status will probably be possible in the future; changing settings does not appear to be possible.
- Itho models with 9 pins in a row instead of 2x4 pin as in the image above
